Pursuing the Art of Fine Woodworking Since 2018
Purpose: This box is designed to hold router bits with both 1/4" and 1/2" shanks.

This box is made from solid poplar. Both the lid and the base are assembled using 1/2" box joints. The top and bottom panels are recessed into the frame with 1/4" rabbets. The top edge of the lid is rounded over with a 1/8" radius. The hinges are mortised.

The interior tray is birch plywood. It is raised 1/2" from the bottom of the box. It contains 80 holes to hold bits with 1/2" shanks and nine holes to hold bits with 1/4"shanks. It may seem like a lot, but I made this when I was just starting out in woodworking and didn't really know how many bits I'd end up owning and wanted to have plenty of room.

After a few years of use, two lid supports were added along with a handle.
